Annual Report: Alamo Regional Transit

Alamo Regional Transit (ART) serves the AACOG region by providing low-cost, reliable transportation to residents living throughout the 12 rural counties comprising 12,583 square miles with particular emphasis on residents who are Veterans, have low incomes, are senior citizens, or have a disability.

ART provided over 114,393 trips during 2013, transporting customers for medical appointments, pharmacy, work, school, free meal programs and other trips. ART also ensures persons who receive Medicaid and have no other means of transportation to their medical appointments get to those appointments safely and on time.

We are pleased to continue providing demand-response service to the cities of Cibolo, New Braunfels, and Schertz by completing interlocal agreements which are funded jointly by VIA and the Cities. This tri-party agreement is a great example of transit providers and City officials working together to solve transportation needs of our citizens.

The participation of the Alamo Regional Transportation Steering Committee (ARTSC) has increased. Comprised of transit providers, health and human service representatives, planners, veterans, medical providers, and the Texas Silver Haired Legislature, we work together to identify transportation challenges and provide viable solutions.

Another example of transit providers teaming up is ART and VIA conducting a joint pilot study to provide transportation within Bexar County by linking rural areas within Bexar County to VIA transit centers. We are also working with Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) to continue to solve transportation challenges associated with Active duty service members, Veterans and their families.

We recently partnered with the City of Seguin by providing a jointly funded fixed route, Connect Seguin, service from one end of Seguin to the other with low-cost fares. This service provides stops to medical centers and the hospital, shopping centers, Texas Lutheran University, and the Workforce Center.
