CARE Terms and Conditions

1. The CARE program is available to individuals who both live and work in the eight county area Surrounding San Antonio (which includes Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson Counties); who carpool, vanpool, take the bus, ride a bike, or walk to work an average of three times or more per week; and who record their trips and keep their home, organization, and email address current on Individuals must have recorded their trips for at least one week before they will see the rebate form offered in the Rewards section at the NuRide website.

2. Pending funding availability, individuals meeting the eligibility criteria stated above may request reimbursement of up to $50 for cab fare home when an emergency occurs while they are at work, up to four times per year. Area residents who live 12 or more miles from where they work may choose to use a rebate coupon for basic rental car charges instead of cab fare, from a car rental service (such as Enterprise) that will pick them up from their place of employment. 

3. The types of emergencies that the CARE program may reimburse ride expenses are:

  • Personal or family illness or injury while the employee is at work
  • A fire or break-in at the employee’s home while he or she is at work
  • The employee is stranded at work due to carpool/vanpool driver's illness or emergency
  • The employee’s supervisor is requiring that he or she works overtime on short notice
4. Approved destinations for reimbursed trips are:
  • The employee’s home as listed on
  • The place one has left his or her vehicle for the purpose of carpool/vanpooling, busing, biking, or walking to work
  • A hospital or emergency medical facility
For those who have taken a cab, a stop along the way (for example, to pick up a sick child from a daycare center) is allowed.

5. The up-to-$50 reimbursement does not cover tips, gasoline, or other charges that may be associated with taking a cab or renting a car. Individuals will not be reimbursed for a car rental that extends beyond 24 hours.

6. To be considered for reimbursement, a receipt that shows the basic cab or rental car fee; the company’s name; the date and time of cab ride or car rental; the place in which the employee was picked up; and, for a cab ride, the destination address, and the driver’s name or ID number must be submitted with a rebate request coupon available through (in the “My Rewards” section).

7. Rebate coupons must be requested and printed within one week of when an emergency ride is taken, and a request for reimbursement must be postmarked within a week of the ride as well. DO NOT request a rebate form before an emergency trip is taken, because the form will expire in one week.

9. In cases where a cab ride costs more than $50 the employee may either pay the difference or submit more than one rebate request coupon for the same ride; however, no more than four coupons will be accepted from an individual within 12 months.

10. The CARE Program reserves the right to deny any and all requests for reimbursement in which any of the above conditions are not met to its satisfaction.

11. Neither the Alamo Area Council of Governments, NuRide, nor the CARE program sponsors are responsible for personal injury, loss of income. consequential damages resulting from delays or absence of a cab or rental car; or termination of the CARE Program.
