This monthly feature in the AACOG Region Newsletter spotlights our AACOG Board members This month we will feature Northeast Independent School District Board Member Katie N. Reed.

Please tell us about your career highlights and education: I received my public school education in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a degree in Education.  I taught in public schools in Missouri and Oklahoma before retiring to raise a family.  My husband kept getting promoted with Southwestern Bell and we moved with each promotion.   Read this article.
 

 

The AACOG region’s inaugural Biennial Legislative Forum is slated for Oct. 30, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the New Braunfels Civic Convention Center, located at 390 S. Seguin Avenue in New Braunfels. The conference will feature several local government officials, state legislators, and others who will provide information and insight to the upcoming 81st session of the Texas Legislature. AACOG and the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce will co-host the event. This is an important event for anyone with an interest in the legislature and critical topics being discussed for the upcoming session. Animated TEEA banner adThe TCEQ’s Texas Environmental Excellence Awards for 2009 are now open for nominations. The awards honor Texas’ brightest and best environmental leaders in the Lone Star State.

The awards celebrate Texans who go for the gold not only to help the environment but to help educate others, too. By celebrating these efforts, the awards offer encouragement to others to initiate like-minded projects and reinforce a spirit of environmental stewardship across this great state. AACOG, in conjunction with CPS Energy and the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA), will host a briefing for local officials (Oct. 28) and a workshop and forum for local area residents (Oct. 30) in recognition of National Weatherization Day.  Both events will be held in the Al J. Notzon III Board Room located at AACOG, 8700 Tesoro Drive, Suite 100, San Antonio.  For more information about these two events, click here.

The next edition of Business Images of the Alamo Area (www.imagesalamoarea.com), the official economic development publication of the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG), will publish in March 2009 With all new, original photography and editorial features, the 2009 edition will focus on specific areas of business and economic development; education; industrial, commercial and land offerings; sports and recreation; health care and quality of life. It will be used all year for the purpose of promoting the region to new businesses and prospective new residents and employees.
