Stroll to Milam Park (501 W. Commerce) during lunch on March 30, 2007 for Fresh Air Friday.  Restaurant vendors will sell food while local organizations provide information displays and giveaways.

Come celebrate with us anytime from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.!

Fresh Air Friday will provide an opportunity to showcase what local organizations do to improve air quality and transportation and keep our region beautiful.

For more information, contact Amber Mayne at (210) 362-5213 or visit www.cleanairdrive.com/FreshAirFriday.  Fresh Air Friday, the first in a series of planned annual events, is sponsored by the AACOG and the City of San Antonio.

The Alamo and Bexar Area Agencies on Aging are currently developing 2008-2010 Area Plans to address senior issues in the AACOG region.  In order to gain feedback from local communities, we are scheduling public meetings during March and April in each of the 12 counties to develop a senior needs assessment unique to that county.   To find a public meeting in your area, please see our community calendar of events.

AACOG Homeland Security will host a Senior Officials Workshop on Thursday, March 22, 2007, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., at AACOG, 8700 Tesoro Drive, 1st Floor, Classroom 6.  This workshop assists senior decision makers in the understanding of the operational and strategic functions as well as statutory responsibilities in a WMD/terrorist event. It also allows them to review first responders plans for their community as well as understand the assistance that would be provided from state and federal resources and the time line for those responses. This six-hour workshop is designed for elected officials, senior officials, emergency response organization heads, heads of city and county departments, and other local leaders.  For more information, contact Adrienne Cohen at (210) 362-5256.

The Alamo area encompasses a variety of enjoyable touring opportunities.  The Alamo Area Council of Car Clubs will drive the back roads through beautiful vistas and get better acquainted with the friendly communities on AACOG’s second Spring Lake Cruise.

This year's car cruise will include the community of Castroville, the historic Rio Medina Store, the Museum of Texas Furniture in New Braunfels, the Heritage Museum of the Hill Country (Dinosaur Flats) in Sattler, and the Guadalupe River Nature Trail downstream from the Canyon Lake Dam.  Many views of Lake Medina, Canyon Lake and Lake McQueeney await cruisers as they wind eastward along the scenic byways.

Other welcoming communities include:  Boerne, Bergheim, Bulverde, Canyon Lake, Gruene, and Seguin. More than a dozen car clubs will take part in this event.  Contact Burma Hyde at (210) 362-5220 for more information.

Help clean up the areas we ride in and around by participating in the Basura (Trash) Bash on Saturday, March 24, 2007.  Join over a thousand volunteers as they clean the banks of the San Antonio River. The clean-up will also include Salado Creek, Indian Creek, Leon Creek, Olmos Basin Park, Medina River Natural Area and San Pedro Creek. Visit www.basurabash.org for more information.
