The Annual Christmas Along the Corridor Pony Express Courier Run is a celebration of American history, heritage, and the holidays, hosted by AACOG, the U.S. Postal Service, and Ft. Sam Houston. More than 120 Pony Express Christmas Couriers travel over 120 miles carrying proclamations to communities in seven counties along the historic Alamo-La Bahia Corridor and other segments of the 300-year-old Camino Real de Los Tejas. These couriers deliver a special holiday greeting from the Governor of Texas to San Antonio. This is a patriotic and unique event, spotlighting the historical and cultural significance of the Alamo region.

The Texas Department of Housing & Community
Affairs (TDHCA) is finalizing negotiations for the Senate Bill 712 (SB712)
contracts for over 30 Weatherization Agencies in Texas. The SB712 contracts
will provide approximately $10 million in new weatherization funding for the
entire State of Texas to be utilized over a 12-14 month period starting later
this year. AACOG is one of these 30 agencies that will be receiving a portion
of this funding, approximately $50,000 or more for the weatherization of
households in Frio, Atascosa, Wilson, Medina and Karnes counties. In April of
this year, AACOG was already awarded $1,750,488 from the U.S. Department of
Energy, TDHCA, and City Public Service Energy for the weatherization of
households in the AACOG region. AACOG weatherized over 400 households in the
region last year.
The open enrollment period for Medicare Part D is November 15, 2006-December 31, 2006. This is the time to enroll in a plan if you haven’t done so yet, or make a change to another plan if you find one that provides better coverage.
