  • May 31:  Community event sponsored by the AACOG, CPS Energy, and the Neighborhood First Alliance.  Purpose is to register eligible residents for the AACOG weatherization program, and other programs offered by CPS Energy.  The event will start at 6:00 p.m. and will be held at the Rev.   • Energy Tip for the Month:  These tips are for kids.  There's a lot kids can do to help their families save money on energy bills.  Some ideas include: 
  • The Section Eight Housing Choice Voucher Program announces that it will be increasing the minimum monthly Total Tenant Payment from $25 to $50.  This rate, if approved by the AACOG Board will go into effect May 1.  The reason for the increase is due to budget reductions across the board for Public Housing Authorities for this calendar year.  For more information, please contact the Section 8 Program at 1-800-749-2010 or 210-362-5284.)
  • AACOG is pleased to announce that the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) has increased the initial level of grant funding to AACOG for its weatherization program from last year by nearly 12% or $100,000.  This initial level of funding increase is based on work performance goals.  Last program year, AACOG received $823,510 in DOE and LIHEAP funds.  This program year which started April 1 will be in the total amount of $921,240.  Over 300 households were weatherized last program year.   
  • June will be Home Ownership Month.  AACOG would like you to know about the Alamo Area Housing Finance Corporation's First-Time Homebuyer Program.  If eligible, you can receive 4 points of down payment and closing cost assistance in conjunction with a low rate mortgage loan (first mortgage only, the assistance is a grant).  You qualify as a first-time homebuyer if you have not had an ownership interest in a house in the past three years.  Homes purchased through the program may be either existing residences or new construction and must be located within the geographic limits of the following counties:  Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Medina, Wilson County and the cities of New Braunfels and Seguin.  To apply for a mortgage loan through the program, or to request additional information, please contact any of the following participating lenders:  Chase Manhattan Mortgage (Beverley Taylor) at 210-822-4720; Countrywide Home Loans (Sherri Mize) at 210-496-9622 or (Winette Minten) at 210-509-6776; DHI Mortgage Company at 800-858-4068; or Texas Homeplace Mortgage Company (Neal Brodbeck) at 800-508-3927.
