The Alamo Area Housing Finance Corporation announces its First-Time Homebuyer Program for this year. Basically, a first-time homebuyer, if eligible, may qualify for 4 points of Down Payment/Closing Cost Assistance provided by the program which is treated as a grant to the borrower. Areas eligible include Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Medina and Wilson counties, plus the cities of New Braunfels and Seguin. Homes purchased through the program may be either existing residences or new construction but must be located within the counties and cities indicated above. The Housing Advisory Committee is pleased to announce its new members recently appointed or reappointed by the AACOG Board to serve a 3 year term set to expire January 2008. They are: Glorianna Ortiz of Floresville, and Gloria Ray of the St. Paul Area Development Corporation, and Stephen Avery of Avery Insurance of San Antonio.

The AACOG Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) recently received an additional $50,000 grant from City Public Service to help in the weatherization of households serviced by CPS in the Bexar County and surrounding areas. The Weatherization Assistance Program is seeking applications from Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson County residents interested and eligible to receive free weatherization for the home. Helpful Numbers: The Weatherization Assistance Program frequently gets phone calls from people needing home repairs. Because we are not a home repair program, we cannot help these people directly. However, there are a few agencies in Bexar County and in Guadalupe and other rural counties that may be able to assist with home repairs via loan programs or actual on-site repairs.
