NFA, Univision Radio, AACOG, and CPS ENERGY Form Partnership on
Air Conditioning Rebate and Weatherization Program

San Antonio, Texas, May 19, 2005 -- The Neighborhoods First Alliance, Univision Radio, Alamo Area Council of Governments, and CPS Energy have formed a partnership to launch the Air Conditioning Rebate and Weatherization Program.  The groups will hold a Special Kick-Off Party on Tuesday May 31, 2005, 6:00 p.m. at Claude W. Black Community Center, 2805 E. Commerce.  The event is free and open to the public.

Laura Compton of the CPS Energy Rebate Program stated that all CPS Energy customers in Bexar County are eligible to participate in the program.  Compton stated, “Rebates on your CPS Energy bill will be made available to customers who purchase a new window air conditioning unit or central heating and air conditioning systems rated with the ENERGY STAR Trademark.”  The Air Conditioning Rebate Program is also available for small commercial customers to encourage the installation of high efficient air conditioning or heat pumps.

§         Units must be purchased and installed between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005.

§         The program expires December 31, 2005 or when funds are depleted.

§         Applications must be received prior to January 10, 2006 and can be picked up and filled out at the May 31, 2005 Kickoff Meeting at the Claude W. Black Community Center.

§         All applications are subject to verification.

§         The new unit must be placed in service within CPS Energy service area.

§         The rebate recipient must be a CPS Energy customer. The rebate appears as a credit to the CPS Energy Account.

§         Remember all a/c units must be ENERGY STAR Products.  Make sure you ask for the ENERGY STAR Trademark Icon.

Rose Jackson with the AACOG Weatherization Assistance Program (AWAP) said, "This is an exciting partnership, especially knowing that together we can help people cut down on their energy bills.  Why blow money out the window when agencies like AACOG can get eligible residents free attic and wall insulation, weather-stripping and caulking, replacement of gas water heaters, space heaters, and other measures?"  Residents must qualify; eligibility is based on household income and the house not needing electrical, foundation, roof or plumbing repairs.

T.C. Calvert, President of the Neighborhoods First Alliance stated, “This partnership between CPS Energy and AACOG is a historical event in our city to help San Antonio citizens save money on their utility bills.”  Calvert stated, “Residents should not AGONIZE BUT WEATHERIZE their homes to lower utility bill costs.”
