Israeli Crisis Response Team School Intervention Training

Crisis Response Team School Intervention Training was conducted at AACOG and Camp Bullis on July 11-14, 2005. Counties represented were: Atascosa, Bexar, Frio, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Medina and Wilson. Mr. Hanan Yadin, who formerly served as the designer of the Counter Terrorism/ Crisis Response Team School Intervention Program in Israel, conducted the training. The program included three days of tactical training for first responders intended to prepare each graduate to bring these vital skills back to their respective counties to share with fellow officers. The fourth day focused on providing school administrators and law enforcement officials in-depth information on how to support and promote school safety and security, as well as to familiarize them with the training their officers received. This is one of the first steps in the goal of the AACOG Criminal Justice Division to better prepare our region to prevent, contain, and recover from terrorist acts. The AACOG Criminal Justice Division has set, as a major priority, the goal of seeking new and innovative ways to improve the safety and security of our regions' children.

Alamo Clean Air Partnership Welcomes H-E-B

Go to webpage

In the realm of environmental leaders, H-E-B is a company of "firsts".  H-E-B became the first retail company to receive the Texas Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence and the first recipient of the "Event Sponsor of the Year" awarded by the Keep Midland Beautiful Program.  H-E-B was a founding partner of the Clean Texas, Cleaner World waste reduction program and was the only Texas fleet invited to be a charter member of the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership.

H-E-B continues its first place tradition by becoming the first company in the San Antonio region to join the Alamo Clean Air Partnership.  The organization's long history of support for community and environmental programs establishes H-E-B as a leader.  We're proud to announce yet another first-place achievement by this Texas-based company.

San Antonio & Miami AAAs Join Hispanic Fire Safety Training Plan

Go to webpage

Fire safety and fall prevention are the topics of a Train-the-Trainer program that the Bexar Area Agency on Aging in San Antonio has been hard at work on. Realizing that the lack of fire safety materials in Spanish leaves Hispanic seniors especially vulnerable, the AAA agreed to become one of three pilot sites that are developing a new approach to fire safety education for older Hispanics, their families, and the professionals who work with them.

Air Quality Watch

Go to webpage

Those concerned with air quality in the region continue to watch the readings on local ground-level ozone monitors. What is ground-level ozone? Ground-level ozone is formed through chemical reactions between natural and man-made emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the presence of sunlight. These gaseous compounds mix in the air, and when they interact with sunlight, ground-level ozone is formed.  Read article...

Notice:  The Texas Heritage Tourism Program has sent the following request from their Division of Architecture:  We are currently doing research for our Medallion article which will explore the many World War II structures in Texas that were adapted into new uses after the war.  Some examples are the adaptation of portions of Fort DA Russell into the Marfa National Bank, Donald Judd's Chinati Foundation and other Marfa buildings.  We have been told of countless WWII structures across the state that were converted into schools, churches and the like at the end of the war but we have very few specific examples.  Please let us know if you are aware of any specific adapted WWII structures in Texas.  Please send your information to: Amy Lambert - email: amy.lambert@thc.state.tx.us
