The mission of AACOG's Alamo Area Regional Law Enforcement Academy (AARLEA) is to enhance the quality of life for our community by providing innovative, visionary, timely, and comprehensive law enforcement education and training. In doing so we seek to impact the skills, abilities, and attitudes of current and future law enforcement practitioners and leaders.
The AARLEA was founded in 1972, only two years after the establishment of mandatory peace officer training standards by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. The Academy received its TCLEOSE license on April 11, 1974. This established us as a pioneering agency in our region for the delivery of law enforcement training. Today we are located at 8700 Tesoro Drive, Suite 600 (the Tesoro Building) near Nacogdoches & 410 on the northeast side of San Antonio. The AARLEA in many ways mirrors the history of our parent organization (AACOG). The AARLEA is just one of the many parts of AACOG. Established in 1967, AACOG is a voluntary association of local governments that serve its members through planning, information and coordination activities. The 12 counties that comprise the Alamo Area planning region are Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson. Just like AACOG, the AARLEA serves these counties. Like AACOG, for the Academy, the key word is service. We are at an exciting new milepost in our Academy's history. We are increasing our outreach and service to rural counties. We are building new relationships and strengthening long-term partnerships. We are looking hard at ourselves to improve our performance. Most importantly, we are looking toward our customers to ensure that we provide the best possible training for the law enforcement professionals of the Alamo Area.
These values act as a guide in all decisions and actions made by our team members; they are considered an integral part of our policies.
