E85 in San Antonio
E85 is a fuel blend made of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline and is cleaner
than gasoline. E85 is a domestically produced fuel, meaning it is made with
American feedstocks and is blended in the United States. E85 is attracting a
lot of attention since it is an alternative to gasoline for many vehicle
owners and is environmentally friendly, promotes the country’s energy
independence, and enhances the nation’s economy.
Some major vehicle manufacturers have been producing flex-fuel vehicles since
the early 1990’s and numerous E85 capable vehicles are on the road today.
Vehicles that can use E85 and/or gasoline are commonly referred to as flexible
fuel vehicles or flex-fuel vehicles. There are several ways of determining
whether a vehicle can use E85. To learn more about determining a vehicle’s
capability of using E85, visit the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (http://www.e85fuel.com/e85101/flexfuelvehicles.php)
