The mission of the Alamo Area Clean Cities Coalition (AACCC) is to develop public and private partnerships that promote the national Clean Cities initiatives aimed at securing national economic, environmental, and energy security. The Coalition provides support for local decisions to adopt practices that contribute to the reduction of petroleum consumption by promoting alternative fuels and vehicles, fuel blends, fuel economy, hybrid vehicles, and idle reduction.

The Alamo Area Clean Cities Coalition develops private and public partnerships to further develop the alternative fuel market presently in existence in San Antonio as well as develop the other Clean Cities petroleum reduction technologies. AACCC also provides assistance in seeking and acquiring financial resources that will result in implementation of projects that promote Clean Cities technology areas.

The Alamo Area Clean Cities Coalition (AACCC) was started by the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) as an effort to improve the air quality in the Alamo Area region. Clean Cities, a locally based voluntary government and industry partnership coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), expands the use of cleaner burning motor fuels produced from American, and especially, Texas produced feedstocks. The Coalition was formally designated by the DOE on November 10th, 1999, making San Antonio the 77th Clean City. At the time of designation, it was recognized by the U. S. Department of Energy as having the greatest number of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) already on the road at designation.

Since the AACCC’s inception, Clean Cities has expanded its focus to cover a realm of initiatives that help improve the nation’s energy security as well as preserve the air. These new initiatives include fuel blends, fuel economy, hybrid vehicles, and idle reduction technologies. The AACCC works with stakeholders to develop various projects focused on expanding the use of alternative fuel vehicles, develop alternative fuel refueling sites, increase hybrid vehicle usage, or other projects that promote Clean Cities initiatives.
