Adopt-A-School Bus Schools

Adopt-A-School Bus Benefits to Schools:

  • The Alamo Area Adopt-A-School Bus program's primary goal is to replace old diesel buses (1996 and older) with new, cleaner, buses.

  • Funding will be available to match a school district’s bus replacement budget. We will have a selection process to effectively distribute funding.

  • Grant money awarded through the program may be combined with other funding sources such as Department of Energy (DOE) alternative-fuel funds.

  • The program provides support for new infrastructure costs and a one-time alternative fuel cost offset.

  • The program rewards those school districts that have already invested in infrastructure to support alternative fuels.

  • This multi-year program follows the school fiscal year calendar, thus allowing for school districts to budget their bus purchases over time.

  • Adopt-A-School Bus staff provides personal attention through educational programs provided for students (i.e. Green Patrol)

  • The program helps provide a healthier environment for students traveling to and from school. Healthier children have fewer absences, which means more attentive learners for the teacher.
