The Academy Quarterly Newsletter
On October 19, 2007, approximately two dozen U.S. Air Force Security Forces personnel from Lackland AFB and Randolph AFB attended the first ever TASER User Certification Course at Lackland AFB, Texas. The course began what will be a series of training courses for U.S. Air Force Security Forces personnel on an Air Force wide level. The Air Force Security Forces Center at Lackland AFB agreed to have their Security Forces troops trained to use the TASER (stun-gun) training as a way to provide their people with another tool for conducting law enforcement operations on their military installations. The AACOG Academy played an instrumental role in helping the Air Force develop their TASER training program; providing technical and administrative resources and assistance. Senior Airman Justin Rogers, who is a recent graduate of AACOG’s Texas Supplemental Peace Officer Course that completed at Lackland in September 2007, and who is now a certified Texas Peace Officer, became the first Security Forces troop to be reported to TCLEOSE as having attended the TASER training course at Lackland AFB. The U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army personnel in the AACOG region continue to be valuable partners in law enforcement training for both civilian and military personnel. Community service after all, spans all jurisdictions. AACOG Law Enforcement Job Fair in April

Understanding the importance not only to train, but to help sustain the skills learned, the Academy will be offering Active Shooter Refresher Training at least once a semester to those peace officers who have previously attended Active Shooter training with AACOG or the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Program. Those officers with at least TCLEOSE approved Basic SWAT training are also eligible to attend. Because of the importance of safety in our school and work environments, this course will be offered by the Academy free of charge to peace officers as a service to the community. Space is limited to fifteen students per class. Anyone who wishes to attend training can take a look at the Active Shooter Refresher Training Courses. Need Some Free Training? From time to time, the academy is able to offer free training to peace officers. Check out a list of the most recent free courses. Distance Learning Kicks Off at AACOG
Instructor John Correu taught a TCLEOSE mandated Cultural Diversity class simultaneously to peace officers in attendance at both the Academy and the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office. The Academy developed the distance learning program with the expressed purpose of bringing more training opportunities to the rural areas of the Alamo Area Region. Upcoming Distance Learning Training Courses for the Academy and the Kerr County Sheriff's Office can be found by clicking here.
