The AACOG Regional Law Enforcement Academy Now Offers TASER Courses!

The academy, in its continual effort to better serve our twelve county region, has added TASER certification to the list of in-service training courses for peace officers.

Officers in the field report that just carrying a TASER has reduced the number of incidents where officers have had to use physical force against uncooperative or combative subjects.

Further, when a TASER had to be used, it eliminated the threat or resistance to officers with a reduced risk of injury to them.

TASER certification courses can be found listed under “Less-Lethal Weapons” by clicking here.

The AACOG Regional Law Enforcement Academy brings In-Service Distance Learning to the Region!

The Academy uses modern technology to help make attending in-service training a little easier.  Officers in the northern part of our region wishing to attend select training, but whom may not have time to travel the distance to Bexar County, may attend the distance learning satellite location located at the Kerr County Sheriffs Office.

The Academy will eventually have another distance learning satellite location in one of the counties south of Bexar.  Having such a system allows in-service classes to be taught simultaneously across the region.  Courses offered through distance learning can be found by clicking here

Check Out Some Free Training!

From time to time, the academy is able to offer free training to peace officers for courses that are funded through other grants.  Click here to check out a list of the most recent courses offered.

Did you Know…

In addition to the TCLEOSE mandated 618 hours of training for the Basic Peace Officer Course, cadets in the course graduate with certifications in RADAR operation, OC Pepper Spray, ASP Baton, and have the option to become certified to carry a TASER. Cadets also have the option to become certified as Corrections Officers as well.

Further, all cadets receive additional training hours in the Texas Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, Tactical Police Driving, Traffic Law, Accident Investigation, Report Writing, Firearms, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings.  All cadets must also pass a psychological to enter the academy, and they must pass a Physical Training test to enter the academy and to graduate.

It is AACOG’s goal to prepare our future peace officers for service in the community.  At the end of a Basic Peace Officer Course, it is not unusual for a cadet graduate to leave the academy with approximately 1,000 hours of training before they even “hit the streets”.
