Section Eight/Housing Choice Voucher Program
Rental Assistance for low-income households towards affordable, decent, safe, and sanitary housing.
What is the Section Eight/Housing Choice Voucher Program? A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by the Public Housing Authority (in this case AACOG) on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference. The family is usually expected to pay about 30% of the family's monthly income. AACOG's Jurisdiction AACOG administers the Housing Choice Voucher Program in Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson Counties. If you live in any of these counties and you are low-income and need rental assistance, you may be eligible for the HCV program through AACOG. If you do not reside in one of these counties, please click here. Waiting List is Closed As the demand for rental assistance exceeds AACOG's limited resources, the waiting list is closed at this time. This office is unable to add interested persons to our waiting list until such a time that the list reopens. The projected timeframe for the waiting list to reopen is one-two years. Notice of the waiting list reopening will be posted on our website and through public notices. Applicants Currently on the Waiting List Applicants who are currently active on the waiting list will be contacted when their name reaches the top. AACOG staff will also contact applicants periodically for waiting list maintenance. In order to keep your application current, you must respond to any correspondence requesting information. Also, be sure to notify this office of changes to your mailing address. If we are unable to contact you or you fail to respond to a letter, your name will be removed from the waiting list. Updated information can be sent to: Alamo Area Council of Governments, Attention: Section 8, 8700 Tesoro Drive, Suite 700, San Antonio, TX 78217.
