El Camino Real de los Tejas, or The Royal Road of historic Texas, is a combination of historic routes totaling more than 2,500 miles from the Rio Grande River near Laredo and into Louisiana. It is a trail through Texas history used for exploration, colonization, trading, ranching and battle. It is not one route, but a road system that served as a corridor during the War of Independence and the Texas Revolution.
"Given Texas has an established and very successful heritage tourism program, these meetings will serve as an opportunity to further develop a partnership between local, state and federal entities to work together towards a common goal," said Texas Historical Commission Executive Director Larry Oaks.
