Classic Cruise Along the Corridor 2006
San Antonio, April 6, 2006 – The “Polish Plymouth Rock,” kaleidoscope colors in stained glass windows, catfish swimming lazily in a basement, museums, a ghost town—victim of a father’s revenge, missions, battlegrounds, brush country, railroad stories, ranchlands and a “hotbed of Texas history”—all are on the schedule for more than 25 area car clubs participating in AACOG’s “Classic Cruise Along the Corridor” on May 6, 2006. Many members of the Alamo Area Council of Car Clubs have been participating in the “Classic Cruise Along the Corridor” for more than fifteen years! Reasons range from “the folks are so friendly” and “a beautiful drive,” to “It’s just plain fun!”
On Saturday, May 6, 2006, between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., the car clubs will depart from the San Antonio Botanical Gardens’ parking lot on their journey down the historic Alamo-La Bahia Corridor. Music will be by local songwriter, Roger Chacon.
Participating communities on the Corridor include: Elmendorf, Dewees, Floresville, Pleasanton, Jourdanton, Poteet, Falls City, Karnes City, Kenedy, Cestohowa, Panna Maria, Helena, Runge, Goliad, Sutherland Springs, Stockdale, and La Vernia. Besides the refreshments served at local hospitality stops, many of the communities will feature other activities such as live entertainment, historic tours, community museums, and shopping in unique venues.
Each car club determines its route and is responsible for contacting the host communities and letting them know times and the number of participants to expect. On the day of the cruise, the clubs will crisscross the Corridor. One happy veteran commented, “It’s really neat meeting the other clubs along the way.”
Sponsored by AACOG, the San Antonio Botanical Garden, and the communities of the Alamo-La Bahia Corridor, this event is unique because it is open to all car clubs. Depending upon where you are, you might see Model As, Model Ts, AMCs, Buicks, Cadillac La Salles, Classic Chevys, Corvettes, Mercedes, MGs, Mustangs, Olds, Packards, Pontiacs, Thunderbirds, Triumph Motorcars, VWs, Valiants, Z-Sports, as well as Mopar Muscle Cars, Street Rods and vintage British motorcycles.
